How to apply for fellowship/scholarship consideration:
Each non-WMU fellowship/scholarship applicant must submit the name and e-mail address of a writer who has published at least one book in his or her respective genre and who has expressed a willingness to nominate the applicant.
The PSP utilizes an online scholarship application system: PSP fellowship/scholarship application. The online process will enable the applicant to complete quickly a brief application, which includes the applicant uploading a Word-file attachment of ten (10) representative pages of prose fiction or nonfiction (may be an excerpt from a short story, novel, essay or memoir); up to 10 pages of poetry (5-poem limit); ten (10) pages of play or script (may be an excerpt from a longer work). We realize that it can be frustrating excerpting from longer work, but we are more interesting in judging the quality of an applicant's writing from sentence to sentence than judging a work in its entirety. We ask that you adhere to these page limits.
There is a $20 application fee which can be paid by sending a check payable to the Prague Summer Program to the following address: Prague Summer Program c/o English Dept. 6th Floor Sprau Western Michigan University Kalamazoo, MI 49008
Your manuscript should have a cover sheet containing the following information: 1. Your name 2. Your e-mail address 3. Your phone number 4. Your nominator's name 5. Your nominator's e-mail address 6. Your nominator's most recent book publication, including publisher and publication date. We will contact the nominator; the nominating process is brief and to the point.
First-round notification will be made by e-mail within 2 weeks of your application. Applying for a scholarship is the initial step in fellowship consideration. Finalists are identified in the first round of judging; all finalists are considered for a fellowship upon the conclusion of the fellowship competition February 15, 2012.
Anyone with extenuating circumstances preventing them from applying online should contact Shana Wolstein, PSP Coordinator, at 269-387-2594. Scholarship applicants who are named finalists in the first round of judging will be judged by genre for four full-tuition fellowships upon the conclusion of the fellowship competition Feb. 15, 2012 and will be awarded as follows:
The Ivan Klíma Fellowship in fiction writing The Pavel Šrut Fellowship in poetry writing The Eda Kriseova Fellowship in nonfiction writing The Vaclav Havel Fellowship in playwriting or screenwriting

They will attend the Program "tuition-free," except for a $192 registration charge, $125 insurance charge, and the cost of housing and travel. They may earn up to seven hours of academic credit, or attend as auditors. All finalists in each genre will be considered for publication in WMU's literary magazine, Third Coast, with special consideration given to the winner in each genre.
