"The people I met, what a group. They came from all over the country, all ages. They brought with them talent, accomplishment, passion, and just plain niceness. I toured Trebon, drank Pilsner and Pinot Noir, ate Italian, Vegetarian and Czech food with these folks. They shared their work with me, and I listened to their readings in a Prague theater, which stimulated me to write more, to strive for a deeper level of honesty. PSP was one of those rare programs in which time, place and people meet to create a gourmet writing experience." "Prague was a gift, a joyous luxury—time for me to write, study, attend readings and happily wander amazing streets where each turn brought new delight. It was an opportunity to work with writers I admired who seriously considered and critiqued my work and were generous with their time. The city itself thrills the imagination and my only job there was to be a writer. What more could I want? I would love to do it again." "Though I'm listed on the roster of teachers, I must confess that I come to the Prague Summer Program to learn. Prague is a city in which the 4th dimension, history, is everywhere a palpable presence, and the place and program invariably revitalize the imagination." "I found the program to be an excellent opportunity to make new friends and learn from some of the most talented writers and artists in the world. By the end of my time in Prague, I had only just begun to grasp the facets of the city and of the considerable history which informs its life. I'm sure I will continue to reap the benefits of my time there both in my writing and in my understanding of world culture. And, having studied in one of the greatest artistic and intellectual centers of Europe, my only wish is that someday soon I can go back." Prague is a dream of a place, an ideal place for a writer. The seminars and readings allowed me to meet some of the most impressive artists and writers working today, as well as time left over to explore one of the world's most hauntingly beautiful and historic cities." "My craft and confidence have soared in workshops led by renowned writers such as Mary Morris, Stuart Dybek, Al Young and Patricia Hampl. I've also learned about the dynamic connection of literature to history from such Czech writers as Ivan Klima and Arnost Lustig, as well as from current Czech political figures and commentators. So much creative and intellectual stimulation wrapped in the splendor of Prague is a treasure for the mind and senses." "To assemble a lively and congenial faculty in one of the world's unforgettably beautiful cities is surely the start of something fine. Add to the mix students who are also lively and congenial—as well as bright and motivated—and you're well on your way to creating an environment where all sorts of good things get done." "Everyone should be lucky enough to visit Prague at least once. It's an easy city to love: the Czech people are gracious; transportation by metro, tram, bus and foot is simple; music, art, theater and good beer are everywhere." "There are few cities whose streets and buildings, whose river and light inspired as Prague does. The surreal nights, the translucent days make it a perfect place to let the imagination wander freely. Seeped in history, alive with music, Prague is a writer's city and I can think of no better place for writers to meet and learn than here." "The Prague Summer Program is superb. The workshops are wonderful. The exposure to the cultural richness of Prague and the Czech Republic is extraordinary." |
